And likewise did he for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed unto their gods.


And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.


And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned in his place.


And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as his wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him.


And Solomon made a treaty with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.


All these had taken foreign wives: and some of them had wives by whom they had children.


Now when these things were done, the leaders came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, in regard to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.


For they have taken of their daughters as wives for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy race has mixed itself with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the leaders and rulers has been foremost in this trespass.


And you take of their daughters unto your sons, and their daughters go play the harlot after their gods, and make your sons go play the harlot after their gods.


To deliver you from the immoral woman, even from the seductress who flatters with her words;


The mouth of immoral women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.


Your eyes shall behold strange things, and your heart shall utter perverse things.


Give not your strength unto women, nor your ways to that which destroys kings.


To keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a seductress.


That they may keep you from the immoral woman, from the seductress who flatters with her words.


Neither shall you take as a wife her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.


Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
