Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:


[A Prayer of Moses, the man of God.] LORD, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.


Unto whom I swore in my anger that they should not enter into my rest.


Like I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I enter into judgment with you, says the Lord GOD.


Because all those men who have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put me to the test now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;


Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.


And the time in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were perished from among the camp as the LORD swore unto them.


But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?


I will therefore put you in remembrance, though you once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
