Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of YY . And YY answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Givonites.


And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a kohen with Urim and with Thummim.

And of Levi he said, Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah, and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah;


And the men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of YY .


Now after the death of Y'howshu`a it came to pass, that the children of Yisrael asked YY , saying, Who shall go up for us against the Kenaanim first, to fight against them?


And the children of Yisrael arose, and went up to the house of Elohim, and asked counsel of Elohim, and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Binyamin? And YY said, Yhudah shall go up first.


(And the children of Yisrael went up and wept before YY until even, and asked counsel of YY , saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Binyamin my brother? And YY said, Go up against him.)


And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the kohen, that the noise that was in the host of the Plishtim went on and increased: and Saul said unto the kohen, Withdraw thine hand.


And David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Evyatar the kohen, Bring hither the ephod.


And when Saul enquired of YY , YY answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.


And David said to Evyatar the kohen, Ahimelech's son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Evyatar brought thither the ephod to David.
