And Yosef called the name of the firstborn Mnasheh: For Elohim, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.


And the name of the second called he Efrayim: For Elohim hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.


And unto Yosef in the land of Egypt were born Mnasheh and Efrayim, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah kohen of On bare unto him.


And when Yosef saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Efrayim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Efrayim's head unto Mnasheh's head.


And Yosef said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.


And Yosef saw Efrayim's children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Mnasheh were brought up upon Yosef's knees.


And made him king over Gilad, and over the Ashurites, and over Yizreel, and over Efrayim, and over Binyamin, and over all Yisrael.


And he took Geshur, and Aram, with the towns of Jair, from them, with Kenath, and the towns thereof, even threescore cities. All these belonged to the sons of Machir the father of Gilad.


Thus saith YY Elohim; This shall be the border, whereby ye shall inherit the land according to the twelve tribes of Yisrael: Yosef shall have two portions.


And by the border of Naftali, from the east side unto the west side, a portion for Mnasheh.


Of the sons of Mnasheh: of Machir, the family of the Machirites: and Machir begat Gilad: of Gilad come the family of the Giladis.


Then came the daughters of TZlofchad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilad, the son of Machir, the son of Mnasheh, of the families of Mnasheh the son of Yosef: and these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noach, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.


And Moshe gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuven, and unto half the tribe of Mnasheh the son of Yosef, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.


But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.


There was also a lot for the rest of the children of Mnasheh by their families; for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shkhem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of Mnasheh the son of Yosef by their families.


Now to the one half of the tribe of Mnasheh Moshe had given possession in Bashan: but unto the other half thereof gave Y'howshu`a among their brethren on this side Yarden westward. And when Y'howshu`a sent them away also unto their tents, then he blessed them,


Out of Efrayim was there a root of them against Amalek; after thee, Binyamin, among thy people; out of Machir came down governors, and out of Zvulun they that handle the pen of the writer.
