And it came to pass after this, that Avshalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.


So Yoav arose and went to Geshur, and brought Avshalom to Yerushalayim.


And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. So Avshalom returned to his own house, and saw not the king's face.


And Avshalom answered Yoav, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me.


And it came to pass after forty years, that Avshalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed unto YY , in Hevron.


For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If YY shall bring me again indeed to Yerushalayim, then I will serve YY .


And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Avshalom, my son, my son Avshalom! would Elohim I had died for thee, O Avshalom, my son, my son!


So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Yizreelitess, and Avigayil Naval's wife the Carmelite.


And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Avshalom.


And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Yisrael set their faces on me, that I should reign: howbeit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother's: for it was his from YY .


Now these were the sons of David, which were born unto him in Hevron; the firstborn Amnon, of Ahinoam the Yizreelitess; the second Daniel, of Avigayil the Carmelitess:


The third, Avshalom the son of Maachah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur: the fourth, AdoniYAH the son of Haggith:


Jair the son of Mnasheh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashanhavothjair, unto this day.


Nevertheless the children of Yisrael expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Yisraelites until this day.


Now the name of the man was Naval; and the name of his wife Avigayil: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Kalev.


And Avigayil hasted, and arose and rode upon an ass, with five damsels of hers that went after her; and she went after the messengers of David, and became his wife.


And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.
