And Yaakov sent messengers before him to Esav his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.


Then David came to Mahanaim. And Avshalom passed over Yarden, he and all the men of Yisrael with him.


And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plain, and passed over Yarden, and went through all Bithron, and they came to Mahanaim.


Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Yhudah have anointed me king over them.


And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Yisrael?


And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong for the house of Saul.


And of the children of Binyamin, the kindred of Saul, three thousand: for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept the ward of the house of Saul.


And of the children of Efrayim twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valour, famous throughout the house of their fathers.


And Ner begat Kish, and Kish begat Saul, and Saul begat Yhonatan, and Malchishua, and AbiNadav, and Eshbaal.


And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Yhonatan, and Malchishua, and AbiNadav, and Eshbaal.


And out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilad with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Mahanaim with her suburbs,


And the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz: and the name of the captain of his host was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.


And when Saul saw David go forth against the Plishti, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.


And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king?
