And there were three sons of TZruyah there, Yoav, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.


Now Yoav was over all the host of Yisrael: and Benaiah the son of Yhoyada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites:


When they were at the great stone which is in Givon, Amasa went before them. And Yoav's garment that he had put on was girded unto him, and upon it a girdle with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out.


Asahel the brother of Yoav was one of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,


And Yoav the son of TZruyah was over the host; and Yhoshafat the son of Ahilud was recorder;


And he conferred with Yoav the son of TZruyah, and with Evyatar the kohen: and they following AdoniYAH helped him.


Moreover thou knowest also what Yoav the son of TZruyah did to me, and what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Yisrael, unto Abner the son of Ner, and unto Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.


And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Yvusis first shall be chief and captain. So Yoav the son of TZruyah went first up, and was chief.


Whose sisters were TZruyah, and Avigayil. And the sons of TZruyah; Abishai, and Yoav, and Asahel, three.


The fourth captain for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Yoav, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.


Then they took all the men, and went to fight with Yishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Givon.


Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of TZruyah, brother to Yoav, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee.
