1 And the word of Shmuel came to all Yisrael. Now Yisrael went out against the Plishtim to battle, and pitched beside Ebenezer: and the Plishtim pitched in Aphek.

And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Benhadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Yisrael.


But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.


Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Plishtim with the inhabitants of TZor;


Ye stand this day all of you before YY your Elohim; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Yisrael,


The king of Aphek, one; the king of Lasharon, one;


From the south, all the land of the Kenaanim, and Mearah that is beside the TZidonians unto Aphek, to the borders of the Amorites:


And Janum, and Bethtappuah, and Aphekah,


Ummah also, and Aphek, and Rehob: twenty and two cities with their villages.


And ye have this day rejected your Elohim, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before YY by your tribes, and by your thousands.


Now the Plishtim gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Yisraelites pitched by a fountain which is in Yizreel.


And YY said to Shmuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Yisrael, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.


And the Plishtim put themselves in array against Yisrael: and when they joined battle, Yisrael was smitten before the Plishtim: and they slew of the army in the field about four thousand men.


And the Plishtim took the ark of Elohim, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.


Then Shmuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath YY helped us.
