Death’s ropes were around me. The grave was closing in on me. I was worried and afraid.


Guide me, as you promised. Don’t let evil rule over me.


My enemies are chasing me. They have crushed me into the dirt. They are pushing me into the dark grave, like people who died long ago.


I have followed your way. My feet never left your path.


You cleared a path for my feet so that I could walk without stumbling.


The earth shook and shivered. The foundations of the mountains trembled. They shook because he was angry.


He will protect me when I am in danger. He will hide me in his tent. He will take me up to his place of safety.


The Lord shows us how we should live, and he is pleased when he sees people living that way.


From a faraway land I call to you for help. I feel so weak and helpless! Carry me to a high rock where no one can reach me.


I have nothing to stand on. I am sinking down, down into the mud. I am in deep water, and the waves are about to cover me.


You have let me see troubles and hard times, but you will give me new life; you will lift me up from this pit of death!


You have such great love for me. You save me from the place of death.


Many people will be gathered together. They have been locked in the Pit. They have been in prison. But finally, after a long time, they will be judged.


Jerusalem, we used blood to seal your agreement, so I am setting your people free from that empty hole in the ground.


They will throw the evil people into the place of fire. There the people will cry and grind their teeth with pain.”


Jesus suffered the pain of death, but God made him free. He raised him from death. There was no way for death to hold him.
