Then the man said, “Your name will not be Jacob. Your name will now be Israel. I give you this name because you have fought with God and with men, and you have won.”


The Lord was with Joseph and continued to show his kindness to him, so the commander of the prison guards began to like Joseph.


Forgive your sinful people for all the things they have done against you. Make their enemies be kind to them.


So, Lord, please listen to my prayer. And listen to the prayers of all your other servants who are happy to honor you. Help me today as I ask the king for help. Make him pleased with me so that he will be kind and give me what I ask for.” At that time, I was the king’s wine servant.


Then the king said to me, “What do you want me to do?” Before I answered, I prayed to the God of heaven.


He liked Esther. She became his favorite, so he quickly gave Esther beauty treatments and special food. He chose seven slave women from the king’s palace and gave them to Esther. Then he moved Esther and her seven women servants into the best place where the king’s women lived.


God saves the poor from the hurtful words of the wicked. He saves them from those who are powerful.


So the poor have hope; God shuts the mouths of those who would cause them harm.


Other nations took them as prisoners, but the Lord caused them to be kind to his people.


You can be sure that anyone who serves the Lord faithfully is special to him. The Lord listens when I pray to him.


When people live to please the Lord, even their enemies will be at peace with them.


But Ashpenaz told Daniel, “I am afraid of my master, the king. He ordered me to give you this food and drink. If you don’t eat this food, you will begin to look weak and sick. You will look worse than other young men your age. The king will see this, and he will become angry with me. He might cut off my head. And it would be your fault.”


and saved him from all his troubles. Pharaoh was the king of Egypt then. He liked Joseph and respected him because of the wisdom God gave him. Pharaoh gave Joseph the job of being a governor of Egypt. He even let him rule over all the people in Pharaoh’s house.
