They will do to you whatever they did to me, because you belong to me. They don’t know the one who sent me.


But he said, “Why are you crying and making me feel so sad? I am willing to be put in jail in Jerusalem. I am even ready to die for the name of the Lord Jesus!”


“I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in the country of Cilicia. I grew up in this city. I was a student of Gamaliel, who carefully taught me everything about the law of our fathers. I was very serious about serving God, the same as all of you here today.


I persecuted the people who followed the Way. Some of them were killed because of me. I arrested men and women and put them in jail.


“I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ The voice said, ‘I am Jesus from Nazareth, the one you are persecuting.’


This man is a troublemaker. He causes trouble with the Jews everywhere in the world. He is a leader of the Nazarene group.


“My brothers, I know that what you did to Jesus was done because you did not understand what you were doing. And your leaders did not understand any more than you did.


But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold, but I do have something else I can give you. By the power of Jesus Christ from Nazareth—stand up and walk!”

I can say this about them: They really try hard to follow God, but they don’t know the right way.


I was so eager to defend my religion that I persecuted the church. And no one could find fault with the way I obeyed the Law of Moses.


In the past I insulted Christ. As a proud and violent man, I persecuted his people. But God gave me mercy because I did not know what I was doing. I did that before I became a believer.


So the men of the city came to Joash and said, “You must bring your son out. He pulled down the altar for Baal, and he cut down the Asherah pole that was beside it. So your son must die.”
