The LORD God said to the woman, *What is this you have done?* The woman said, *The serpent deceived me, and I ate.*


He feeds on ashes; a deceived heart has turned him aside; and he can't deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?


The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it?


As for your terror, the pride of your heart has deceived you, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill: though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there, says the LORD.


The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high, who says in his heart, 'Who will bring me down to the ground?'


Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin.


Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good; that through the mitzvah sin might become exceeding sinful.


But sin, finding occasion through the mitzvah, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.


that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man, that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit;


but exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called *today;* lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.


But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.


If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn't bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man's religion is worthless.
