Ben-Hadad sent to him, and said, The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Shomron shall suffice for handfuls for all the people who follow me.


Then he mustered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two: and after them he mustered all the people, even all the children of Yisra'el, being seven thousand.


Now you think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and you are a great multitude, and there are with you the golden calves which Yarov`am made you for gods.


Our God, will you not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are on you.


For the children of `Ammon and Mo'av stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Se`ir, utterly to kill and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Se`ir, everyone helped to destroy another.


The LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Ashur. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he was come into the house of his god, those who came forth from his own bowels killed him there with the sword.


He doesn't withdraw his eyes from the righteous, but with kings on the throne, he sets them forever, and they are exalted.


Will you trust him, because his strength is great? Or will you leave to him your labor?


They are bowed down and fallen, but we rise up, and stand upright.


For they didn't get the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them; but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your face, because you were favorable to them.


The waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all Par`oh's army that went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them.


I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.


How say you, We are mighty men, and valiant men for the war?


Thus says the LORD, Don't let the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, don't let the rich man glory in his riches;


You have plowed wickedness. You have reaped iniquity. You have eaten the fruit of lies, for you trusted in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.


Flight will perish from the swift; and the strong won't strengthen his force; neither shall the mighty deliver himself;


neither shall he stand who handles the bow; and he who is swift of foot won't escape; neither shall he who rides the horse deliver himself;


Now therefore give me this hill country, of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the `Anakim were there, and cities great and fortified: it may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as the LORD spoke.


The LORD said to Gid`on, The people who are with you are too many for me to give the Midyanim into their hand, lest Yisra'el vaunt themselves against me, saying, My own hand has saved me.


The LORD said to Gid`on, The people are yet too many; bring them down to the water, and I will try them for you there: and it shall be, that of whom I tell you, This shall go with you, the same shall go with you; and of whoever I tell you, This shall not go with you, the same shall not go.


There went out a champion out of the camp of the Pelishtim, named Golyat, of Gat, whose height was six cubits and a span.


He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness; for no man shall prevail by strength.
