These likewise cast lots even as their brothers the sons of Aharon in the presence of David the king, and Tzadok, and Achimelekh, and the heads of the fathers' [houses] of the Kohanim and of the Levites; the fathers' [houses] of the chief even as those of his younger brother.


To the sons of Merari [were given] by lot, according to their families, out of the tribe of Re'uven, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zevulun, twelve cities.


The princes of the people lived in Yerushalayim: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Yerushalayim the holy city, and nine parts in the [other] cities.


The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD.
