Avram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.


Lot also, who went with Avram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.


Le'ah conceived, and bore a son, and she named him Re'uven. For she said, *Because the LORD has looked at my affliction. For now my husband will love me.*


They said to Par`oh, *We have come to live as foreigners in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants' flocks. For the famine is severe in the land of Kena`an. Now therefore, please let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen.*


They passed over the Yarden, and encamped in `Aro`er, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and to Ya`zer:


then they came to Gil`ad, and to the land of Tachtim-Chodshi; and they came to Dan-Ya`an, and round about to Tzidon,


These written by name came in the days of Chizkiyahu king of Yehudah, and struck their tents, and the Me`unim who were found there, and destroyed them utterly to this day, and lived in their place; because there was pasture there for their flocks.


A mixed multitude went up also with them, with flocks, herds, and even very much livestock.


For thus says the LORD concerning the house of the king of Yehudah: You are Gil`ad to me, [and] the head of Levanon; [yet] surely I will make you a wilderness, [and] cities which are not inhabited.


With more than the weeping of Ya`zer will I weep for you, vine of Sivmah: your branches passed over the sea, they reached even to the sea of Ya`zer: on your summer fruits and on your vintage the destroyer is fallen.


I will bring Yisra'el again to his pasture, and he shall feed on Karmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied on the hills of Efrayim and in Gil`ad.


Is there no balm in Gil`ad? is there no physician there? why then isn't the health of the daughter of my people recovered?


Shepherd your people with your staff, the flock of your heritage, who dwell by themselves in a forest, in the midst of fertile pasture land, let them feed; in Bashan and Gil`ad, as in the days of old.


Moshe sent to spy out Ya`zer; and they took the towns of it, and drove out the Amori who were there.

He provided the first part for himself, for there was the lawgiver's portion reserved. He came [with] the heads of the people. He executed the righteousness of the LORD, His ordinances with Yisra'el.


Their border was Ya`zer, and all the cities of Gil`ad, and half the land of the children of `Ammon, to `Aro`er that is before Rabbah;


The children of Yisra'el sent to the children of Re'uven, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Menasheh, into the land of Gil`ad, Pinechas the son of El`azar the Kohen,


The children of Re'uven and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Menasheh returned, and departed from the children of Yisra'el out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Kena`an, to go to the land of Gil`ad, to the land of their possession, which they owned, according to the mitzvah of the LORD by Moshe.


For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn't the Father's, but is the world's.


Why did you sit among the sheepfolds, To hear the whistling for the flocks? At the watercourses of Re'uven There were great searchings of heart.
