Then king Shlomo swore by the LORD, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if Adoniyahu has not spoken this word against his own life.


but these lay wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.


The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.


But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul. All those who hate me love death.*


Therefore now thus says the LORD, the God Tzeva'ot, the God of Yisra'el: Why commit you [this] great evil against your own souls, to cut off from you man and woman, infant and suckling, out of the midst of Yehudah, to leave you none remaining;


and I will set my face against that man, and will make him an astonishment, for a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and you shall know that I am the LORD.


You have devised shame to your house, by cutting off many peoples, and have sinned against your soul.


Speak to El`azar the son of Aharon the Kohen, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter you the fire yonder; for they are holy,


El`azar the Kohen took the bronze censers, which those who were burnt had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of the altar,


to be a memorial to the children of Yisra'el, to the end that no stranger, who isn't of the seed of Aharon, comes near to burn incense before the LORD; that he not be as Korach, and as his company: as the LORD spoke to him by Moshe.


The LORD said to Moshe, Put back the rod of Aharon before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that you may make an end of their murmurings against me, that they not die.


and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korach, when that company died; what time the fire devoured two hundred fifty men, and they became a sign.


Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.


and turning the cities of Sedom and `Amorah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly;
