Therefore he swore to them that he would overthrow them in the wilderness,


Therefore he consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror.


and I will purge out from among you the rebels, and those who disobey against me; I will bring them forth out of the land where they sojourn, but they shall not enter into Eretz-Yisra'el: and you shall know that I am the LORD.


So all those who were numbered of the children of Yisra'el by their fathers' houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Yisra'el;


even all those who were numbered were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty.


But among these there was not a man of them who were numbered by Moshe and Aharon the Kohen, who numbered the children of Yisra'el in the wilderness of Sinai.


For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. There was not left a man of them, save Kalev the son of Yefunneh, and Yehoshua the son of Nun.


However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.


The days in which we came from Kadesh-Barnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, were thirty-eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as the LORD swore to them.


With whom was he displeased forty years? Wasn't it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?


For the children of Yisra'el walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, even the men of war who came forth out of Egypt, were consumed, because they didn't listen to the voice of the LORD: to whom the LORD swore that he wouldn't let them see the land which the LORD swore to their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.


Now I desire to remind you, though you already know this, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who didn't believe.
