For I hate divorce,* says the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, *and him who covers his garment with violence!* says the LORD of Armies. *Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you don't deal treacherously.


Then the talmidim came, and said to him, *Do you know that the Perushim were offended, when they heard this saying?*


The Perushim and Tzedukim came, and testing him, asked him to show them a sign from heaven.


Perushim came to him, testing him, and saying, *Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?*


One of them, a Torah scholar, asked him a question, testing him.


*Woe to you, scribes and Perushim, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.


But the Perushim said, *By the prince of the demons, he casts out demons.*


He arose from there and came into the borders of Yehudah and beyond the Yarden. Multitudes came together to him again. As he usually did, he was again teaching them.


He answered, *What did Moshe command you?*


The Perushim came out and began to question him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, and testing him.


He charged them, saying, *Take heed: beware of the yeast of the Perushim and the yeast of Herod.*


The Lord said to him, *Now you Perushim cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness.


The Perushim, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they scoffed at him.


Their scribes and the Perushim murmured against his talmidim, saying, *Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?*


The scribes and the Perushim watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Shabbat, that they might find an accusation against him.


But the Perushim and the Torah scholars rejected the counsel of God, not being immersed by him themselves.


The chief Kohanim therefore and the Perushim gathered a council, and said, *What are we doing? For this man does many signs.


Now the chief Kohanim and the Perushim had commanded that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, that they might seize him.


The Perushim heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief Kohanim and the Perushim sent officers to arrest him.


Have any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Perushim?


They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Yeshua stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger.


Neither let us test the Lord, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents.
