for we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the LORD that the LORD has sent us to destroy it.*


He cried against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, altar, altar, thus says the LORD: Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Yoshiyahu by name; and on you shall he sacrifice the Kohanim of the high places who burn incense on you, and men's bones shall they burn on you.


For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Beit-El, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Shomron, shall surely happen.


As Yoshiyahu turned himself, he spied the tombs that were there in the mountain; and he sent, and took the bones out of the tombs, and burned them on the altar, and defiled it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.


He killed all the Kohanim of the high places that were there, on the altars, and burned men's bones on them; and he returned to Yerushalayim.


He brought all the Kohanim out of the cities of Yehudah, and defiled the high places where the Kohanim had burned incense, from Geva to Be'er-Sheva; and he broke down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Yehoshua the governor of the city, which were on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.


All the people went to the house of Ba`al, and broke it down, and broke his altars and his images in pieces, and killed Mattan the Kohen of Ba`al before the altars.


Now when all this was finished, all Yisra'el who were present went out to the cities of Yehudah, and broke in pieces the pillars, and hewed down the Asherim, and broke down the high places and the altars out of all Yehudah and Binyamin, in Efrayim also and Menasheh, until they had destroyed them all. Then all the children of Yisra'el returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities.


Therefore the LORD burned with anger against his people. He abhorred his inheritance.


But you have rejected and spurned. You have been angry with your anointed.


Therefore, by this the iniquity of Ya`akov will be forgiven, and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: that he makes all the stones of the altar as chalk stones that are beaten in pieces, so that the Asherim and the incense altars shall rise no more.


Have you utterly rejected Yehudah? has your soul loathed Tziyon? why have you struck us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for shalom, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold, dismay!


First I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable things, and have filled my inheritance with their abominations.


I will also give you into their hand, and they shall throw down your vaulted place, and break down your lofty places; and they shall strip you of your clothes, and take your beautiful jewels; and they shall leave you naked and bare.


He said to me, Son of man, [this is] the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Yisra'el forever. The house of Yisra'el shall no more defile my holy name, neither they, nor their kings, by their prostitution, and by the dead bodies of their kings [in] their high places;


You shall know that I am the LORD, when their slain men shall be among their idols round about their altars, on every high hill, on all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every thick oak, the places where they offered sweet savor to all their idols.


Their heart is divided. Now they will be found guilty. He will demolish their altars. He will destroy their sacred stones.


You shall not walk in the customs of the nation, which I am casting out before you: for they did all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.


I will set my tent among you: and my soul won't abhor you.


and if you shall reject my statutes, and if your soul abhors my ordinances, so that you will not do all my mitzvot, but break my covenant;


*The Lord GOD has sworn by himself,* says the LORD, the God Tzeva'ot: *I abhor the pride of Ya`akov, and detest his fortresses. Therefore I will deliver up the city with all that is in it.


The high places of Yitzchak will be desolate, the sanctuaries of Yisra'el will be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Yarov`am with the sword.*


The LORD saw [it], and abhorred [them], because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.
