They have burned your sanctuary to the ground. They have profaned the dwelling place of your Name.


His tent is also in Shalem; His dwelling place in Tziyon.


Why have you broken down its walls, so that all those who pass by the way pluck it?


You have broken down all his hedges. You have brought his strongholds to ruin.


Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Shabbatot, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies.


The daughter of Tziyon is left like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut in a field of melons, like a besieged city.


Therefore I will profane the princes of the sanctuary; and I will make Ya`akov a curse, and Yisra'el a reviling.*


Now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away its hedge, and it will be eaten up. I will break down its wall of it, and it will be trampled down.


I will lay it a wasteland. It won't be pruned nor hoed, but it will grow briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.*


Your holy people possessed [it] but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down your sanctuary.


Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, is burned with fire; and all our pleasant places are laid waste.


But if you will not listen to me to make the day of Shabbat holy, and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Yerushalayim on the day of Shabbat; then will I kindle a fire in the gates of it, and it shall devour the palaces of Yerushalayim, and it shall not be quenched.


For thus says the LORD of Armies, the God of Yisra'el: As my anger and my wrath has been poured forth on the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, so shall my wrath be poured forth on you, when you shall enter into Egypt; and you shall be an object of horror, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and you shall see this place no more.


Thus shall you tell him, Thus says the LORD: Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up; and this in the whole land.


The voice of those who flee and escape out of the land of Bavel, to declare in Tziyon the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple.


The ways of Tziyon do mourn, because none come to the solemn assembly; all her gates are desolate, her Kohanim do sigh: her virgins are afflicted, and she herself is in bitterness.


The anger of the LORD has scattered them; he will no more regard them: They didn't respect the persons of the Kohanim, they didn't favor the elders.


The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits; Of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the nations.


Princes were hanged up by their hand: The faces of elders were not honored.


For he has despised the oath by breaking the covenant; and behold, he had given his hand, and yet has done all these things; he shall not escape.


I will lay your cities waste, and will bring your sanctuaries to desolation, and I will not take delight in the sweet fragrence of your offerings.


Those who are sad for the appointed feasts, I will remove from you. They are a burden and a reproach to you.


*Therefore I have also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according to the way you have not kept my ways, but have had respect for persons in the law.
