This is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Tziyon has despised you and ridiculed you; the daughter of Yerushalayim has shaken her head at you.


This house, which is so high, everyone who passes by it shall be astonished, and shall say, Why has the LORD done thus to this land, and to this house?


I have also become a reproach to them. When they see me, they shake their head.


All those who see me mock me. They insult me with their lips. They shake their heads, saying,


Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Tziyon, on the north sides, the city of the great King.


God has shown himself in her citadels as a refuge.


Out of Tziyon, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.


Their own tongues shall ruin them. All who see them will shake their heads.


For the LORD will rise up as on Mount Perazim. He will be angry as in the valley of Giv`on; that he may do his work, his unusual work, and bring to pass his act, his extraordinary act.

Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, is burned with fire; and all our pleasant places are laid waste.

For wasn't Yisra'el a derision to you? was he found among thieves? for as often as you speak of him, you wag the head.


Bavel shall become heaps, a dwelling place for jackals, an astonishment, and a hissing, without inhabitant.

Thus was you decked with gold and silver; and your clothing was of fine linen, and silk, and embroidered work; you ate fine flour, and honey, and oil; and you were exceeding beautiful, and you did prosper to royal estate.


Your renown went forth among the nations for your beauty; for it was perfect, through my majesty which I had put on you, says the Lord GOD.


Thus says the Lord GOD: You will drink of your sister's cup, which is deep and large; you will be ridiculed and held in derision; it contains much.


For thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have clapped your hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced with all the despite of your soul against Eretz-Yisra'el;


So it shall be a reproach and a taunt, an instruction and an astonishment, to the nations that are round about you, when I shall execute judgments on you in anger and in wrath, and in wrathful rebukes; (I, the LORD, have spoken it;)


Lord, according to all your righteousness, let your anger and please let your wrath be turned away from your city Yerushalayim, your holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Yerushalayim and your people are become a reproach to all who are round about us.


For the statutes of `Omri 1 are kept, and all the works of the house of Ach'av. You walk in their counsels, that I may make you a ruin, and her inhabitants a hissing; And you will bear the reproach of my people.*


There is no healing your wound, for your injury is fatal. All who hear the report of you clap their hands over you; for who hasn't felt your endless cruelty?


This is the joyous city that lived carelessly, that said in her heart, *I am, and there is none besides me.* How she has become a desolation, a place for animals to lie down in! Everyone who passes by her will hiss, and shake their fists.
