Yehoshafat said to the king of Yisra'el, Please inquire first for the word of the LORD.


Moshe said to his father-in-law, *Because the people come to me to inquire of God.


You shall put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Tummim; and they shall be on Aharon's heart, when he goes in before the LORD: and Aharon shall bear the judgment of the children of Yisra'el on his heart before the LORD continually.


He shall stand before El`azar the Kohen, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the LORD: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Yisra'el with him, even all the congregation.


Menasheh did not drive out [the inhabitants of] Beit-Shean and its towns, nor [of] Ta`nakh and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Yivle`am and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Kena`anim would dwell in that land.


I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations that Yehoshua left when he died;


Yehoshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being one hundred ten years old.


They buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnat-Cheres, in the hill country of Efrayim, on the north of the mountain of Ga`ash.


The children of Yisra'el arose, and went up to Beit-El, and asked counsel of God; and they said, Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Binyamin? the LORD said, Yehudah [shall go up] first.


The children of Yisra'el went up and wept before the LORD until even; and they asked of the LORD, saying, Shall I again draw near to battle against the children of Binyamin my brother? the LORD said, Go up against him.


The children of Yisra'el asked of the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,


and Pinechas, the son of El`azar, the son of Aharon, stood before it in those days), saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Binyamin my brother, or shall I cease? the LORD said, Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.


Therefore they asked of the LORD further, Is there yet a man to come here? the LORD answered, Behold, he has hid himself among the baggage.
