He left from there to the mountain on the east of Beit-El, and pitched his tent, having Beit-El on the west, and `Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD.


He called the name of that place Beit-El, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.


All the people, [even] the [men of] war who were with him, went up, and drew near, and came before the city, and encamped on the north side of `Ai: now there was a valley between him and `Ai.


So they set the people, even all the army who was on the north of the city, and their ambush on the west of the city; and Yehoshua went that night into the midst of the valley.


The house of Yosef, they also went up against Beit-El; and the LORD was with them.


Sha'ul came to the city of `Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.
