9 The children of Re'uven and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Menasheh returned, and departed from the children of Yisra'el out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Kena`an, to go to the land of Gil`ad, to the land of their possession, which they owned, according to the mitzvah of the LORD by Moshe.

and he made him king over Gil`ad, and over the Ashuri, and over Yizre`el, and over Efrayim, and over Binyamin, and over all Yisra'el.


and eastward he lived even to the entrance of the wilderness from the river Perat, because their livestock were multiplied in the land of Gil`ad.


Gil`ad is mine, and Menasheh is mine. Efrayim also is the defense of my head. Yehudah is my scepter.


Now the children of Re'uven and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock: and when they saw the land of Ya`zer, and the land of Gil`ad, that behold, the place was a place for livestock;


Moshe said to them, If you will do this thing, if you will arm yourselves to go before the LORD to the war,


and the land is subdued before the LORD; then afterward you shall return, and be guiltless towards the LORD, and towards Yisra'el; and this land shall be to you for a possession before the LORD.


Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock, shall be there in the cities of Gil`ad;


Moshe said to them, If the children of Gad and the children of Re'uven will pass with you over the Yarden, every man who is armed to battle, before the LORD, and the land shall be subdued before you; then you shall give them the land of Gil`ad for a possession:


I commanded you at that time, saying, the LORD your God has given you this land to possess it: you shall pass over armed before your brothers the children of Yisra'el, all the men of valor.


until the LORD give rest to your brothers, as to you, and they also possess the land which the LORD your God gives them beyond the Yarden: then shall you return every man to his possession, which I have given you.


Moshe went up from the plains of Mo'av to Mount Nevo 1, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Yericho. The LORD showed him all the land of Gil`ad, to Dan,


and Gil`ad, and the border of the Geshuri and Ma`akhati, and all Mount Chermon, and all Bashan to Salkhah;


Their border was Ya`zer, and all the cities of Gil`ad, and half the land of the children of `Ammon, to `Aro`er that is before Rabbah;


and half Gil`ad, and `Ashtarot, and Edre`i, the cities of the kingdom of `Og in Bashan, were for the children of Makhir the son of Menasheh, even for the half of the children of Makhir according to their families.


When they came to the region about the Yarden, that is in the land of Kena`an, the children of Re'uven and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Menasheh built there an altar by the Yarden, a great altar to look on.


Then all the children of Yisra'el went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Be'er-Sheva, with the land of Gil`ad, to the LORD at Mitzpah.


Gil`ad lived beyond the Yarden. Why did Dan remain in ships? Asher sat still at the haven of the sea, and lived by his creeks.
