It happened at that time, that Yehudah went down from his brothers, and visited a certain `Adullami, whose name was Chirah.


Ben-Chesed, in Arubbot (to him [pertained] Sokho, and all the land of Chefer);


His wife Yehudiyah bore Yered the father of Gedor, and Chever the father of Sokho, and Yekuti'el the father of Zanoach. These are the sons of Bityah the daughter of Par`oh, whom Mered took.


Beit-Tzur, and Sokho, and `Adullam,


and Adorayim, and Lakhish, and `Azeka,


and in En Rimmon, and in Tzor`ah, and in Yarmut,


I will yet bring to you, inhabitant of Mareshah. He who is the glory of Yisra'el will come to `Adullam.


The LORD confused them before Yisra'el, and he killed them with a great slaughter at Giv`on, and chased them by the way of the ascent of Beit-Choron, and struck them to `Azeka, and to Makkedah.


They did so, and brought forth those five kings to him out of the cave, the king of Yerushalayim, the king of Chevron, the king of Yarmut, the king of Lakhish, the king of `Eglon.


Therefore Adoni-Tzedek king of Yerushalayim sent to Hoham king of Chevron, and to Pir'am king of Yarmut, and to Yafia king of Lakhish, and to Devir king of `Eglon, saying,


the king of Yarmut, one; the king of Lakhish, one;


the king of Livna, one; the king of `Adullam, one;


and Zanoach, and `En-Gannim, Tappuach, and `Enam,


and Sha`arayim, and `Aditayim, and Gederah, and Gederotayim; fourteen cities with their villages.


In the hill country, Shamir, and Yattir, and Sokho,


Now the Pelishtim gathered together their armies to battle; and they were gathered together at Sokho, which belongs to Yehudah, and encamped between Sokho and `Azeka, in Efes-Dammim.


David therefore departed there, and escaped to the cave of `Adullam: and when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him.
