To the woman he said, *I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. In pain you will bring forth children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.*


for you shall forget your misery. You shall remember it as waters that are passed away.


He settles the barren woman in her home, as a joyful mother of children. Praise the LORD!


They will be dismayed. Pangs and sorrows will seize them. They will be in pain like a woman in labor. They will look in amazement one at another. Their faces will be faces of flame.


Therefore my thighs are filled with anguish. Pains have taken hold on me, like the pains of a woman in labor. I am in so much pain that I can't hear. I so am dismayed that I can't see.


Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a boy.


Be in pain, and labor to bring forth, daughter of Tziyon, like a woman in travail; yor now you will go forth out of the city, and will dwell in the field, and will come even to Bavel. There you will be rescued. There the LORD will redeem you from the hand of your enemies.


Now why do you cry out aloud? Is there no king in you? Has your counselor perished, that pains have taken hold of you as of a woman in travail?


For it is written, *Rejoice, you barren who don't bear. Break forth and shout, you that don't travail. For more are the children of the desolate than of her who has a husband.*


For when they are saying, *Peace and safety,* then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.
