Why did you flee secretly, and deceive me, and didn't tell me, that I might have sent you away with mirth and with songs, with tambourine and with harp;


then will I cut off Yisra'el out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have made holy for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Yisra'el shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.


I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor, I, who called on God, and he answered. The just, the blameless man is a joke.


Surely there are mockers with me. My eye dwells on their provocation.


They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, and don't hesitate to spit in my face.


*Now I have become their song. Yes, I am a byword to them.


You make us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.


All day long my dishonor is before me, and shame covers my face,


When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them.


The harp, lyre, tambourine, and flute, with wine, are at their feasts; but they don't regard the work of the LORD, neither have they considered the operation of his hands.


The LORD said to Moshe, If her father had but spit in her face, shouldn't she be ashamed seven days? let her be shut up outside of the camp seven days, and after that she shall be brought in again.
