David said to Avishai, Now will Sheva the son of Bikhri do us more harm than did Avshalom: take your lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.


I was mute with silence. I held my shalom, even from good. My sorrow was stirred.


They also gave me gall for my food. In my thirst, they gave me vinegar to drink.


Sit you silent, and get you into darkness, daughter of the Kasdim; for you shall no more be called The mistress of kingdoms.


We acknowledge, LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against you.


Though our iniquities testify against us, work you for your name's sake, LORD; for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against you.


Therefore thus says the LORD of Armies concerning the prophets: Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall; for from the prophets of Yerushalayim is ungodliness gone forth into all the land.


Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day; and we have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.


But it happened, when Nevukhadnetzar 1 king of Bavel came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Yerushalayim for fear of the army of the Kasdim, and for fear of the army of the Syrians; so we dwell at Yerushalayim.


but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after the Ba`alim, which their fathers taught them;


therefore thus says the LORD of Armies, the God of Yisra'el, Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.


Remember my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.


Then Moshe said to Aharon, *This is what the LORD spoke of, saying, 'I will show myself holy to those who come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified.'* Aharon held his shalom.


*When a man's relative carries him, even he who burns him, to bring bodies out of the house, and asks him who is in the innermost parts of the house, 'Is there yet any with you?' And he says, 'No;' then he will say, 'Hush! Indeed we must not mention the name of the LORD.'


But the LORD is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him!*


Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD; for he has roused himself from his holy habitation!*


They gave him sour wine to drink mixed with gall. When he had tasted it, he would not drink.


lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood;


For their vine is of the vine of Sedom, of the fields of `Amorah. Their grapes are grapes of gall, Their clusters are bitter.
