The king commanded Chilkiyah the Kohen Gadol, and the Kohanim of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Ba`al, and for the Asherah, and for all the army of the sky, and he burned them outside of Yerushalayim in the fields of the Kidron, and carried the ashes of them to Beit-El.


The captain of the guard took Serayah the chief Kohen, and Tzefanyah the second Kohen, and the three keepers of the threshold:


and `Azaryah became the father of Serayah, and Serayah became the father of Yehotzadak;


Now after these things, in the reign of Artachshasta king of Paras, Ezra the son of Serayah, the son of `Azaryah, the son of Chilkiyah,


For a day in your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.


For thus says the LORD, Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself, and to all your friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall see it; and I will give all Yehudah into the hand of the king of Bavel, and he shall carry them captive to Bavel, and shall kill them with the sword.


The word which came to Yirmeyahu from the LORD, when king Tzidkiyahu sent to him Pashchur the son of Malkiyah, and Tzefanyah the son of Ma`aseyah, the Kohen, saying,


Thus speaks the LORD of Armies, the God of Yisra'el, saying, Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are at Yerushalayim, and to Tzefanyah the son of Ma`aseyah, the Kohen, and to all the Kohanim, saying,


Tzefanyah the Kohen read this letter in the ears of Yirmeyahu the prophet.


Tzidkiyahu king of Yehudah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Bavel's army, who have gone away from you.


and I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Chanan the son of Yigdalyahu, the man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Ma`aseyah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.


Tzidkiyahu the king sent Yehukhal the son of Shelemyahu, and Tzefanyah the son of Ma`aseyah, the Kohen, to the prophet Yirmeyahu, saying, Pray now to the LORD our God for us.


Now in the fifth month, in the tenth day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of king Nevukhadnetzar 1, king of Bavel, came Nevuzar'adan 1 the captain of the guard, who stood before the king of Bavel, into Yerushalayim:


Then Nevuzar'adan 1 the captain of the guard carried away captive of the poorest of the people, and the residue of the people who were left in the city, and those who fell away, who fell to the king of Bavel, and the residue of the multitude.


The anger of the LORD has scattered them; he will no more regard them: They didn't respect the persons of the Kohanim, they didn't favor the elders.


Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Your slain whom you have laid in the midst of it, they are the flesh, and this [city] is the caldron; but you shall be brought forth out of the midst of it.


Take the choice of the flock, and also a pile [of wood] for the bones under [the caldron]; make it boil well; yes, let the bones of it be boiled in the midst of it.


Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my sheep at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the sheep; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; and I will deliver my sheep from their mouth, that they may not be food for them.
