Many bulls have surrounded me. Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.


Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.


I was angry with my people, I profaned my inheritance, and gave them into your hand: you did show them no mercy; on the aged have you very heavily laid your yoke.


Now therefore hear this, you who are given to pleasures, who sit securely, who say in your heart, I am, and there is none else besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:


Thus says the LORD against all my evil neighbors, who touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Yisra'el to inherit: behold, I will pluck them up from off their land, and will pluck up the house of Yehudah from among them.


Egypt is a very beautiful heifer; [but] destruction out of the north is come, it is come.


Also her hired men in the midst of her are like calves of the stall; for they also are turned back, they are fled away together, they didn't stand: for the day of their calamity is come on them, the time of their visitation.


They are grew fat, they shine: yes, they overpass in deeds of wickedness; they don't plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and the right of the needy they don't judge.


They were as fed horses roaming at large; everyone neighed after his neighbor's wife.


Yisra'el is a hunted sheep; the lions have driven him away: first, the king of Ashur devoured him; and now at last Nevukhadnetzar 1 king of Bavel has broken his bones.


Kill all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter: woe to them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation.


They have heard that I sigh; there is none to comfort me; All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have done it: You will bring the day that you have proclaimed, and they shall be like me.


As you did rejoice over the inheritance of the house of Yisra'el, because it was desolate, so will I do to you: you shall be desolate, Mount Se`ir, and all Edom, even all of it; and they shall know that I am the LORD.


therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed my land to themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with despite of soul, to cast it out for a prey.


Efrayim is a trained heifer that loves to thresh; so I will put a yoke on her beautiful neck. I will set a rider on Efrayim. Yehudah will plow. Ya`akov will break his clods.


Listen to this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Shomron, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their lords, *Bring, and let us drink.*


But don't look down on your brother in the day of his disaster, and don't rejoice over the children of Yehudah in the day of their destruction. Don't speak proudly in the day of distress.


He takes up all of them with the hook. He catches them in his net, and gathers them in his dragnet. Therefore he rejoices and is glad.


This will be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the peoples who have warred against Yerushalayim: their flesh will consume away while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will consume away in their sockets, and their tongue will consume away in their mouth.


But Yeshurun grew fat, and kicked. You have grown fat. You have grown thick. You have become sleek. Then he forsook God who made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
