In his days Par`oh-Nekho king of Egypt went up against the king of Ashur to the river Perat: and king Yoshiyahu went against him; and [Par`oh-Nekho] killed him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.


The king of Egypt didn't come again out of his land any more; for the king of Bavel had taken, from the brook of Egypt to the river Perat, all that pertained to the king of Egypt.


When evil-doers came at me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.


I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.


Many will stumble over it, fall, be broken, be snared, and be captured.*


Then the LORD said to me, Out of the north evil shall break forth on all the inhabitants of the land.


But the LORD is with me as an awesome mighty one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be utterly disappointed, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgotten.


behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, says the LORD, and [I will send] to Nevukhadnetzar 1 the king of Bavel, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants of it, and against all these nations round about; and I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.


Set up a standard toward Tziyon: flee for safety, don't stay; for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.


For that day is [a day] of the Lord, the LORD of Armies, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour and be satiate, and shall drink its fill of their blood; for the Lord, the LORD of Armies, has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Perat.


The nations have heard of your shame, and the earth is full of your cry; for the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty, they are fallen both of them together.


He made many to stumble, yes, they fell one on another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our birth, from the oppressing sword.

The overwhelming forces shall be overwhelmed from before him, and shall be broken; yes, also the prince of the covenant.
