and said, *I have sworn by myself, says the LORD, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son,


But to the wicked God says, *What right do you have to declare my statutes, that you have taken my covenant on your lips,


I will not break my covenant, nor alter what my lips have uttered.


The LORD has sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give your grain to be food for your enemies; and foreigners shall not drink your new wine, for which you have labored:


But if you will not hear these words, I swear by myself, says the LORD, that this house shall become a desolation.


As the bad figs, which can't be eaten, they are so bad, surely thus says the LORD, So will I give up Tzidkiyahu the king of Yehudah, and his princes, and the residue of Yerushalayim, who remain in this land, and those who dwell in the land of Egypt,


and you shall swear, As the LORD lives, in truth, in justice, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.


Therefore thus says the LORD of Armies, the God of Yisra'el: Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, even to cut off all Yehudah.


so that none of the remnant of Yehudah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or be left, to return into the land of Yehudah, to which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return save such as shall escape.


Moreover Yirmeyahu said to all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Yehudah who are in the land of Egypt:


As I live, says the King, whose name is the LORD of Armies, surely like Tavor among the mountains, and like Karmel by the sea, so shall he come.


For I have sworn by myself, says the LORD, that Botzrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities of it shall be perpetual wastes.


Though they say, As the LORD lives; surely they swear falsely.


The LORD of Armies has sworn by himself, [saying], Surely I will fill you with men, as with the canker worm; and they shall lift up a shout against you.


Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Ba`al, and walk after other gods that you have not known,


As for you, house of Yisra'el, thus says the Lord GOD: Go you, serve everyone his idols, and hereafter also, if you will not listen to me; but my holy name shall you no more profane with your gifts, and with your idols.


*Though you, Yisra'el, play the prostitute, yet don't let Yehudah offend; and don't come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beit-Aven, nor swear, 'As the LORD lives.'


*When a man's relative carries him, even he who burns him, to bring bodies out of the house, and asks him who is in the innermost parts of the house, 'Is there yet any with you?' And he says, 'No;' then he will say, 'Hush! Indeed we must not mention the name of the LORD.'


*The Lord GOD has sworn by himself,* says the LORD, the God Tzeva'ot: *I abhor the pride of Ya`akov, and detest his fortresses. Therefore I will deliver up the city with all that is in it.


The LORD has sworn by the pride of Ya`akov, *Surely I will never forget any of their works.


Tell them, As I live, says the LORD, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you:


To whom did he swear that they wouldn't enter into his rest, but to those who were disobedient?


For when God made a promise to Avraham, since he could swear by none greater, he swore by himself,


that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.
