All the people, both small and great, and the captains of the forces, arose, and came to Egypt; for they were afraid of the Kasdim.


It happened, as he talked with him, that [the king] said to him, Have we made you of the king's counsel? Stop! Why should you be struck down? Then the prophet stopped, and said, I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.


Trust in the LORD, and do good. Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture.


Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.


Then took Yochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Yishma'el the son of Netanyah, from Mitzpah, after that he had killed Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, [to wit], the men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Giv`on:


and I have this day declared it to you; but you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God in anything for which he has sent me to you.


Then called he Yochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,


But they didn't listen, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods.
