Esav lived in the hill country of Se`ir. Esav is Edom.


They will fly down on the shoulders of the Pelishtim on the west. Together they will plunder the children of the east. They will extend their power over Edom and Mo'av, and the children of `Ammon will obey them.


Let my outcasts dwell with you! As for Mo'av, be a hiding place for him from the face of the destroyer. For the extortioner is brought to nothing. Destruction ceases. The oppressors are consumed out of the land.


I will even give them up to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil; to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I shall drive them.


Then Yishma'el carried away captive all the residue of the people who were in Mitzpah, even the king's daughters, and all the people who remained in Mitzpah, whom Nevuzar'adan 1 the captain of the guard had committed to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam; Yishma'el the son of Netanyah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of `Ammon.


But Yochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Yehudah, who were returned from all the nations where they had been driven, to sojourn in the land of Yehudah;


the men, and the women, and the children, and the king's daughters, and every person who Nevuzar'adan 1 the captain of the guard had left with Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, the son of Shafan; and Yirmeyahu the prophet, and Barukh the son of Neriyah 1;


Egypt, and Yehudah, and Edom, and the children of `Ammon, and Mo'av, and all that have the corners [of their hair] cut off, who dwell in the wilderness; for all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Yisra'el are uncircumcised in heart.


Thus says the Lord GOD: Because Edom has dealt against the house of Yehudah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended, and revenged himself on them;


Son of man, set your face toward the children of `Ammon, and prophesy against them:


For thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have clapped your hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced with all the despite of your soul against Eretz-Yisra'el;


Thus says the Lord GOD: Because Mo'av and Se`ir say, Behold, the house of Yehudah is like all the nations;


My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and on every high hill: yes, my sheep were scattered on all the surface of the earth; and there was none who searched or sought.


As you did rejoice over the inheritance of the house of Yisra'el, because it was desolate, so will I do to you: you shall be desolate, Mount Se`ir, and all Edom, even all of it; and they shall know that I am the LORD.


Because you have had a perpetual enmity, and have given over the children of Yisra'el to the power of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time of the iniquity of the end;


A third part of you shall die with the pestilence, and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of you; and a third part shall fall by the sword round about you; and a third part I will scatter to all the winds, and will draw out a sword after them.


You shall take of it a few in number, and bind them in your skirts.


The children of Yisra'el traveled, and encamped in the plains of Mo'av beyond the Yarden at Yericho.


Yisra'el abode in Shittim; and the people began to play the prostitute with the daughters of Mo'av:


for they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods; and the people ate, and bowed down to their gods.


Then Nachash the `Ammonite came up, and encamped against Yavesh-Gil`ad: and all the men of Yavesh said to Nachash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve you.


When you saw that Nachash the king of the children of `Ammon came against you, you said to me, No, but a king shall reign over us; when the LORD your God was your king.
