Come near, you nations, to hear! Listen, you peoples. Let the earth and all it contains hear; the world, and everything that comes from it.


Then Yeshaiyahu the prophet came to king Chizkiyahu, and asked him, *What did these men say? Where did they come from to you?* Chizkiyahu said, *They have come from a country far from me, even from Bavel.*


For, behold, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, says the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set everyone his throne at the entrance of the gates of Yerushalayim, and against all the walls of it round about, and against all the cities of Yehudah.


Both great and small shall die in this land; they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them;


The young lions have roared on him, and yelled; and they have made his land waste: his cities are burned up, without inhabitant.


Hear the word of the LORD, you nations, and declare it in the islands afar off; and say, He who scattered Yisra'el will gather him, and keep him, as shepherd does his flock.


It happened when Yerushalayim was taken, (in the ninth year of Tzidkiyahu king of Yehudah, in the tenth month, came Nevukhadnetzar 1 king of Bavel and all his army against Yerushalayim, and besieged it;


As keepers of a field are they against her round about, because she has been rebellious against me, says the LORD.


Behold, I will bring a nation on you from far, house of Yisra'el, says the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you don't know, neither understand what they say.


Therefore a lion out of the forest shall kill them, a wolf of the evenings shall destroy them, a leopard shall watch against their cities; everyone who goes out there shall be torn in pieces; because their transgressions are many, [and] their backsliding is increased.


Declare you among the nations and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and don't conceal: say, Bavel is taken, Bel is disappointed, Merodakh is dismayed; her images are disappointed, her idols are dismayed.


Therefore hear, you nations, and know, congregation, what is among them.


Hear, earth: behold, I will bring evil on this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not listened to my words; and as for my law, they have rejected it.


Thus says the LORD, Behold, a people comes from the north country; and a great nation shall be stirred up from the uttermost parts of the earth.


They lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roars like the sea, and they ride on horses, everyone set in array, as a man to the battle, against you, daughter of Tziyon.


Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people from a land that is very far off: isn't the LORD in Tziyon? Isn't her King in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their engraved images, and with foreign vanities?


In his right hand was the divination [for] Yerushalayim, to set battering rams, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with shouting, to set battering rams against the gates, to cast up mounds, to build forts.
