It happened in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nevukhadnetzar 1 king of Bavel came, he and all his army, against Yerushalayim, and encamped against it; and they built forts against it round about.


Palal the son of Uzai [repaired] over against the turning [of the wall], and the tower that stands out from the upper house of the king, which is by the court of the guard. After him Pedayahu the son of Par`osh [repaired].


You have taken my friends from me. You have made me an abomination to them. I am confined, and I can't escape.


For Tzidkiyahu king of Yehudah had shut him up, saying, Why do you prophesy, and say, Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Bavel, and he shall take it;


So Chanam'el my uncle's son came to me in the court of the guard according to the word of the LORD, and said to me, Please buy my field that is in `Anatot, which is in the land of Binyamin; for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.


Moreover the word of the LORD came to Yirmeyahu the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the guard, saying,


The word which came to Yirmeyahu from the LORD, when Nevukhadnetzar 1 king of Bavel, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion, and all the peoples, were fighting against Yerushalayim, and against all the cities of it, saying:


Yirmeyahu commanded Barukh, saying, I am shut up; I can't go into the house of the LORD:


The princes were angry with Yirmeyahu, and struck him, and put him in prison in the house of Yonatan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.


Then Tzidkiyahu the king commanded, and they committed Yirmeyahu into the court of the guard; and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Yirmeyahu remained in the court of the guard.


Now Yirmeyahu came in and went out among the people; for they had not put him into prison.


So they drew up Yirmeyahu with the cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Yirmeyahu remained in the court of the guard.


Then took they Yirmeyahu, and cast him into the dungeon of Malkiyah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard: and they let down Yirmeyahu with cords. In the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Yirmeyahu sank in the mire.


Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
