They shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Kena`an. The land was polluted with blood.


The earth also is polluted under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant.


For of old time I have broken your yoke, and burst your bonds; and you said, I will not serve; for on every high hill and under every green tree you did bow yourself, playing the prostitute.


How can you say, I am not defiled, I have not gone after the Ba`alim? see your way in the valley, know what you have done: [you are] a swift dromedary traversing her ways;


I brought you into a plentiful land, to eat the fruit of it and the goodness of it; but when you entered, you defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination.


Go up to Levanon, and cry; and lift up your voice in Bashan, and cry from `Avarimen; for all your lovers are destroyed.


Return, you backsliding children, I will heal your backsliding. Behold, we are come to you; for you are the LORD our God.


It happened through the lightness of her prostitution, that the land was polluted, and she committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

Tell them, As I live, says the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn you, turn you from your evil ways; for why will you die, house of Yisra'el?


When the LORD spoke at the first by Hoshea, the LORD said to Hoshea, *Go, take for yourself a wife of prostitution and children of unfaithfulness; for the land commits great adultery, forsaking the LORD.*


Contend with your mother! Contend, for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband; and let her put away her prostitution from her face, and her adulteries from between her breasts;

then they shall bring out the young lady to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has done folly in Yisra'el, to play the prostitute in her father's house: so shall you put away the evil from the midst of you.


His concubine played the prostitute against him, and went away from him to her father's house to Beit-Lechem-Yehudah, and was there the space of four months.
