Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might this thing be? He said, Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it.


He shall not look at the rivers, the flowing streams of honey and butter.


Whose home I have made the wilderness, and the salt land his dwelling place?


The wicked are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.


and a fruitful land into a salt waste, for the wickedness of those who dwell in it.


though the wicked spring up as the grass, and all the evil-doers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.


For you shall be as an oak whose leaf fades, and as a garden that has no water.


therefore thus says the LORD, Behold, I will punish Shemayah the Nechelami, and his seed; he shall not have a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he see the good that I will do to my people, says the LORD, because he has spoken rebellion against the LORD.


Flee, save your lives, and be like the heath in the wilderness.


But the miry places of it, and the marshes of it, shall not be healed; they shall be given up to salt.


Therefore as I live, says the LORD of Armies, the God of Yisra'el, surely Mo'av will be as Sedom, and the children of `Ammon as `Amorah, a possession of nettles, and salt pits, and a perpetual desolation. The remnant of my people will plunder them, and the survivors of my nation will inherit them.


[and that] the whole land of it is sulfur, and salt, [and] a burning, [that] it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows therein, like the overthrow of Sedom and `Amorah, Admah and Tzevoyim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:


Avimelekh fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and killed the people who were therein: and he beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.
