He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.


The LORD said to Moshe, *Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.*


Moshe stretched forth his hand toward the sky, and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days.


The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but in death, the righteous has a refuge.


The burden of the animals of the South. Through the land of trouble and anguish, of the lioness and the lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they carry their riches on the shoulders of young donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to an unprofitable people.


They will roar against them in that day like the roaring of the sea. If one looks to the land behold, darkness and distress. The light is darkened in its clouds.


Behold, all you who kindle a fire, who gird yourselves about with firebrands; walk you in the flame of your fire, and among the brands that you have kindled. This shall you have of my hand; you shall lie down in sorrow.
