The firstborn of the poor will eat, and the needy will lie down in safety; and I will kill your root with famine, and your remnant will be killed.


The cities of `Aro`er are forsaken. They will be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.


For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness. The calf will feed there, and there he will lie down, and consume its branches.


The wilderness and the dry land will be glad. The desert will rejoice and blossom like a rose.


This shall be the sign to you. You will eat this year that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs from the same; and in the third year sow and reap and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.


Then the lambs will graze as in their pasture, and strangers will eat the ruins of the rich.


All the hills that were cultivated with the hoe, you shall not come there for fear of briers and thorns; but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of sheep.*
