David said to Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great; and let me not fall into the hand of man.


Now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I [will chastise you] with scorpions.


But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was `Oded: and he went out to meet the army that came to Shomron, and said to them, Behold, because the LORD, the God of your fathers, was angry with Yehudah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage which has reached up to heaven.


Therefore he brought on them the king of the Kasdim, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or gray-headed: he gave them all into his hand.


He carried those who had escaped from the sword away to Bavel; and they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Paras:


But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven to wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nevukhadnetzar 1 king of Bavel, the Kasdai, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Bavel.


For they persecute him whom you have wounded. They tell of the sorrow of those whom you have hurt.


I will send him against a profane nation, and against the people who anger me will I give him a charge to take the spoil and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.


Their infants also will be dashed in pieces before their eyes. Their houses will be ransacked, and their wives raped.


who made the world like a wilderness, and overthrew its cities; who didn't release his prisoners to their home?*


who struck the peoples in wrath with a continual stroke, who ruled the nations in anger, with a persecution that none restrained.


Therefore I will profane the princes of the sanctuary; and I will make Ya`akov a curse, and Yisra'el a reviling.*


They lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roars like the sea; and they ride on horses, everyone set in array, as a man to the battle, against you, daughter of Bavel.


The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand; They are knit together, they are come up on my neck; he has made my strength to fail: The Lord has delivered me into their hands, against whom I am not able to stand.


They have heard that I sigh; there is none to comfort me; All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have done it: You will bring the day that you have proclaimed, and they shall be like me.


The Lord has swallowed up all the habitations of Ya`akov, and has not pitied: He has thrown down in his wrath the strongholds of the daughter of Yehudah; He has brought them down to the ground; he has profaned the kingdom and the princes of it.


The anger of the LORD has scattered them; he will no more regard them: They didn't respect the persons of the Kohanim, they didn't favor the elders.


Princes were hanged up by their hand: The faces of elders were not honored.


Speak to the house of Yisra'el, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pities; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left behind shall fall by the sword.


By the abundance of your traffic they filled the midst of you with violence, and you have sinned: therefore I have cast you as profane out of the mountain of God; and I have destroyed you, covering Keruv, from the midst of the stones of fire.


For the violence done to your brother Ya`akov, shame will cover you, and you will be cut off forever.


For as you have drunk on my holy mountain, so will all the nations drink continually. Yes, they will drink, swallow down, and will be as though they had not been.


Then the angel of the LORD replied, *O LORD of Armies, how long will you not have mercy on Yerushalayim and on the cities of Yehudah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?*


I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, but they added to the calamity.*


For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.


a nation of fierce facial expressions, that shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young,


For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
