24 Who gave Ya`akov as plunder, and Yisra'el to the robbers? Didn't the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? For they would not walk in his ways, and they disobeyed his law.

They were broken in pieces, nation against nation, and city against city; for God did vex them with all adversity.


Therefore he brought on them the king of the Kasdim, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or gray-headed: he gave them all into his hand.


So I let them go after the stubbornness of their hearts, that they might walk in their own counsels.


Oh that my people would listen to me, that Yisra'el would walk in my ways!


For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Yisra'el, *You will be saved in returning and rest. Your strength will be in quietness and in confidence.* You refused,


Who is there among you who will give ear to this? Who will listen and hear for the time to come?


I form the light, and create darkness; I make shalom, and create evil. I am the LORD, who does all these things.


I was angry with my people, I profaned my inheritance, and gave them into your hand: you did show them no mercy; on the aged have you very heavily laid your yoke.


Oh that you had listened to my mitzvot! then had your shalom been as a river, and your righteousness as the waves of the sea:


For the iniquity of his covetousness was I angry, and struck him; I hid [my face] and was angry; and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart.


But they rebelled, and grieved his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, [and] himself fought against them.


They are not humbled even to this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.


Behold, I will bring a nation on you from far, house of Yisra'el, says the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you don't know, neither understand what they say.


The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand; They are knit together, they are come up on my neck; he has made my strength to fail: The Lord has delivered me into their hands, against whom I am not able to stand.


The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his mitzvah: Please hear all you peoples, and see my sorrow: My virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.


The Lord gave Yehoiakim king of Yehudah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shin`ar to the house of his god: and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.


Does the shofar alarm sound in a city, without the people being afraid? Does evil happen to a city, and the LORD hasn't done it?


When the king heard that, he was angry, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.


The LORD will bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies; a nation whose language you shall not understand;


How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had delivered them up?


The anger of the LORD was kindled against Yisra'el, and he sold them into the hand of the Pelishtim, and into the hand of the children of `Ammon.
