In the days of Artachshasta wrote Bishlam, Mitredat, Tav'el, and the rest of his companions, to Artachshasta king of Paras; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian [character], and set forth in the Syrian [language].


Thus says the Lord, the LORD of Armies, *Go, get yourself to this treasurer, even to Shevna, who is over the house, and say,


It will happen in that day that I will call my servant Elyakim the son of Chilkiyah,


But Ravshakeh said, *Has my master sent me only to your master and to you, to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?*


Then Ravshakeh stood, and called out with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said, *Hear the words of the great king, the king of Ashur!


youths in whom was no blemish, but well-favored, and skillful in all wisdom, and endowed with knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability to stand in the king's palace; and that he should teach them the learning and the language of the Kasdim.


Then spoke the Kasdim to the king in the Syrian language, O king, live forever: tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.
