For every lofty tower, for every fortified wall,


*Because you have said, 'We have made a covenant with death, and with She'ol are we in agreement. When the overflowing scourge passes through, it won't come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and we have hidden ourselves under falsehood.'*


The crown of pride of the drunkards of Efrayim will be trodden under foot.


Now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away its hedge, and it will be eaten up. I will break down its wall of it, and it will be trampled down.


This is what the Lord GOD says: *It shall not stand, neither shall it happen.*


Take counsel together, and it will be brought to nothing; speak the word, and it will not stand: for God is with us.*


It will sweep onward into Yehudah. It will overflow and pass through; it will reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, Immanu'el.


I will make void the counsel of Yehudah and Yerushalayim in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those who seek their life: and their dead bodies will I give to be food for the birds of the sky, and for the animals of the earth.


From there also shall you go forth, with your hands on your head: for the LORD has rejected those in whom you trust, and you shall not prosper with them.


Those who escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Yehudah, few in number; and all the remnant of Yehudah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose word shall stand, mine, or theirs.


Thus says the LORD: Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall become an overflowing stream, and shall overflow the land and all that is therein, the city and those who dwell therein; and the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.


Our eyes do yet fail [in looking] for our vain help: In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save.


tell those who daub it with whitewash, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and you, great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall tear it.


But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape who does such things? shall he break the covenant, and yet escape?

The serpent spewed water out of his mouth after the woman like a river, that he might cause her to be carried away by the stream.


He said to me, *The waters which you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and languages.
