Let favor be shown to the wicked, yet he will not learn righteousness. In the land of uprightness he will deal wrongfully, and will not see the LORD's majesty.


Woe to Ari'el! Ari'el, the city where David encamped! Add year to year; let the feasts come around;


Now therefore hear this, you who are given to pleasures, who sit securely, who say in your heart, I am, and there is none else besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:


Woe to those who rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; who stay late into the night, until wine inflames them!


The harp, lyre, tambourine, and flute, with wine, are at their feasts; but they don't regard the work of the LORD, neither have they considered the operation of his hands.


Woe to those who are mighty to drink wine, and champions at mixing strong drink;


Come, [say they], I will get wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow shall be as this day, [a day] great beyond measure.


Why have we fasted, [say they], and you don't see? [why] have we afflicted our soul, and you take no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast you find [your own] pleasure, and exact all your labors.


Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sedom: pride, fullness of bread, and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.


Don't rejoice, Yisra'el, to jubilation like the nations; for you were unfaithful to your God. You love the wages of a prostitute at every grain threshing floor.


If I fought with animals at Ephesus for human purposes, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, then *let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.*


You have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.
