The beginning of his kingdom was Bavel, Erekh, Akkad, and Kalneh, in the land of Shin`ar.


The sons of Shem: `Elam, Ashur, Arpakhshad, Lud, and Aram.


It happened, as they traveled east, that they found a plain in the land of Shin`ar, and they lived there.


It happened in the days of Amrafel, king of Shin`ar, Aryokh, king of Ellasar, Kedorla`omer, king of `Elam, and Tid`al, king of Goyim,


The name of the second river is Gichon: the same river that flows through the whole land of Kush.


The king of Ashur brought men from Bavel, and from Kutah, and from Avva, and from Chamat and Sefarvayim, and placed them in the cities of Shomron instead of the children of Yisra'el; and they possessed Shomron, and lived in the cities of it.


King Achashverosh laid a tribute on the land, and on the islands of the sea.


The Lord said, *I will bring you again from Bashan, I will bring you again from the depths of the sea;


Unless the LORD of Armies had left to us a very small remnant, we would have been as Sedom; we would have been like `Amorah.


It will come to pass in that day that the remnant of Yisra'el, and those who have escaped from the house of Ya`akov will no more again lean on him who struck them, but shall lean on the LORD, the Holy One of Yisra'el, in truth.


Isn't Kalno like Karkemish? Isn't Chamat like Arpad? Isn't Shomron like Damascus?*


There will be a highway for the remnant that is left of his people from Ashur, like there was for Yisra'el in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.


The LORD will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the LORD in that day. Yes, they will worship with sacrifice and offering, and will vow a vow to the LORD, and will perform it.


The LORD will strike Egypt, striking and healing. They will return to the LORD, and he will be entreated by them, and will heal them.


A grievous vision is declared to me. The treacherous man deals treacherously, and the destroyer destroys. Go up, `Elam; attack! I have stopped all of Madai's sighing.


`Elam carried his quiver, with chariots of men and horsemen; and Kir uncovered the shield.


Therefore glorify the LORD in the east, even the name of the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, in the islands of the sea!


The remnant that is escaped of the house of Yehudah will again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.


Sing to the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is therein, the islands and their inhabitants.


Let them give glory to the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.


He will not fail nor be discouraged, until he has set justice in the earth, and the islands will wait for his law.*


Thus says the LORD: *The labor of Egypt, and the merchandise of Kush, and the Seva'im, men of stature, shall come over to you, and they shall be yours. They shall go after you. In chains they shall come over; and they shall fall down to you. They shall make supplication to you: 'Surely God is in you; and there is none else, there is no other god.


Behold, these shall come from far; and behold, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.


I will set a sign among them, and I will send such as escape of them to the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tuval and Yavan, to the islands afar off, who have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the nations.


and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of `Elam, and all the kings of the Madai;


Hear the word of the LORD, you nations, and declare it in the islands afar off; and say, He who scattered Yisra'el will gather him, and keep him, as shepherd does his flock.


The word that came to Yirmeyahu concerning all the Jews who lived in the land of Egypt, who lived at Migdol, and at Tachpanches, and at Mof, and in the country of Patros, saying,


Of Damascus. Chamat is confounded, and Arpad; for they have heard evil news, they are melted away: there is sorrow on the sea; it can't be quiet.


Of the oaks of Bashan have they made your oars; they have made your benches of ivory inlaid in boxwood, from the islands of Kittim.


and I will bring back the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Patros, into the land of their birth; and they shall be there a base kingdom.


I will make Patros desolate, and will set a fire in Tzo`an, and will execute judgments on No.


There is `Elam and all her multitude round about her grave; all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who are gone down uncircumcised into the lower parts of the earth, who caused their terror in the land of the living, and have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit.


After many days you shall be visited: in the latter years you shall come into the land that is brought back from the sword, that is gathered out of many peoples, on the mountains of Yisra'el, which have been a continual waste; but it is brought forth out of the peoples, and they shall dwell securely, all of them.


The Lord gave Yehoiakim king of Yehudah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shin`ar to the house of his god: and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.


After this shall he turn his face to the islands, and shall take many: but a prince shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; yes, moreover, he shall cause his reproach to turn on him.


I saw in the vision; now it was so, that when I saw, I was in the citadel of Susa, which is in the province of `Elam; and I saw in the vision, and I was by the river Ulai.


The children of Yehudah and the children of Yisra'el will be gathered together, and they will appoint themselves one head, and will go up from the land; for great will be the day of Yizre`el.


They will walk after the LORD, who will roar like a lion; for he will roar, and the children will come trembling from the west.


They will come trembling like a bird out of Egypt, and like a dove out of the land of Ashur; and I will settle them in their houses,* says the LORD.


In that day they will come to you from Ashur and the cities of Egypt, and from Egypt even to the River, and from sea to sea, and mountain to mountain.


The LORD will be awesome to them, for he will famish all the gods of the land. Men will worship him, everyone from his place, even all the shores of the nations.


He said to me, *To build her a house in the land of Shin`ar. When it is prepared, she will be set there in her own place.*


Thus says the LORD of Armies: *Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;


and Chamat, also, which borders on it; Tzor and Tzidon, because they are very wise.


For if the rejection of them is the reconciling of the world, what would their acceptance be, but life from the dead?


and so all Yisra'el will be saved. Even as it is written, *There will come out of Tziyon the Deliverer, and he will turn away ungodliness from Ya`akov.


But whenever one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.


Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm.
