Out of that land he went forth into Ashur, and built Nineveh, Rechovot-Ir, Kelach,


Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? the LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.


Haven't you heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? now have I brought it to pass, that it should be yours to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.


For the scepter of wickedness won't remain over the allotment of the righteous; so that the righteous won't use their hands to do evil.


from men by your hand, LORD, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life. You fill the belly of your cherished ones. Your sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.


Should an axe brag against him who chops with it? Should a saw exalt itself above him who saws with it? As if a rod should lift those who lift it up, or as if a staff should lift up someone who is not wood.


For yet a very little while, and the indignation against you will be accomplished, and my anger will be directed to his destruction.*


They come from a far country, from the uttermost part of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.


The LORD of Armies has sworn, saying, *Surely, as I have thought, so shall it happen; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:


that I will break the Ashur in my land, and tread him under foot on my mountains. Then his yoke will leave them, and his burden leave their shoulders.


Behold, the land of the Kasdim. This people was not. The Ashur founded it for those who dwell in the wilderness. They set up their towers. They overthrew its palaces. They made it a ruin.


Come, my people, enter into your chambers, and shut your doors behind you. Hide yourself for a little moment, until the indignation is past.

Behold, the name of the LORD comes from far away, burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke. His lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is as a devouring fire.

For before the child knows how to say, 'My father,' and, 'My mother,' the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Shomron will be carried away by the king of Ashur.*


now therefore, behold, the Lord brings upon them the mighty flood waters of the River: the king of Ashur and all his glory. It will come up over all its channels, and go over all its banks.


Therefore have I poured out my indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I brought on their heads, says the Lord GOD.


Behold, the day, behold, it comes: your doom is gone forth; the rod has blossomed, pride has budded.

But ships [shall come] from the coast of Kittim. They shall afflict Ashur, and shall afflict `Ever. He also shall come to destruction.
