He heard the words of Lavan's sons, saying, *Ya`akov has taken away all that was our father's. From that which was our father's, has he gotten all this wealth.*


They went after them to the Yarden: and behold, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. The messengers returned, and told the king.


What then shall I do when God rises up? When he visits, what shall I answer him?


Riches don't profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.


Wail; for the day of the LORD is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.


*It will happen in that day that the glory of Ya`akov will be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh will become lean.


The inhabitants of this coast land will say in that day, 'Behold, this is our expectation, where we fled for help to be delivered from the king of Ashur. And we, how will we escape?'*


The dead shall not live. The deceased shall not rise. Therefore have you visited and destroyed them, and caused all memory of them to perish.


For, behold, the LORD comes forth out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth also will disclose her blood, and will no longer cover her slain.


For the bed is too short to stretch out on, and the blanket is too narrow to wrap oneself in.


She will be visited by the LORD of Armies with thunder, with earthquake, with great noise, with whirlwind and storm, and with the flame of a devouring fire.


but you said, *No, for we will flee on horses;* therefore you will flee; and, *We will ride on the swift;* therefore those who pursue you will be swift.


They shall all be ashamed because of a people that can't profit them, that are not a help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.*


For Egypt helps in vain, and to no purpose; therefore have I called her Rachav who sits still.


The sinners in Tziyon are afraid. Trembling has seized the godless ones. Who among us can live with the devouring fire? Who among us can live with everlasting burning?

He will lift up a banner to the nations from far, and he will whistle for them from the end of the earth. Behold, they will come speedily and swiftly.


I will prepare destroyers against you, everyone with his weapons; and they shall cut down your choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.


You, when you are made desolate, what will you do? Though you clothe yourself with scarlet, though you deck you with ornaments of gold, though you enlarge your eyes with paint, in vain do you make yourself beautiful; [your] lovers despise you, they seek your life.


the prophets prophesy falsely, and the Kohanim bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will you do in the end of it?


Shall I not visit them for these things? says the LORD; shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?


*When Efrayim saw his sickness, and Yehudah his wound, Then Efrayim went to Ashur, and sent to king Yarev: but he is not able to heal you, neither will he cure you of your wound.


What will you do in the day of solemn assembly, and in the day of the feast of the LORD?


The days of visitation have come. The days of reckoning have come. Yisra'el will consider the prophet to be a fool, and the man who is inspired to be insane, because of the abundance of your sins, and because your hostility is great.


As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; Or he went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a snake bit him.


The best of them is like a brier. The most upright is worse than a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, even your visitation, has come; now is the time of their confusion.


Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.


and will dash you and your children within you to the ground. They will not leave in you one stone on another, because you didn't know the time of your visitation.*


The LORD will bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies; a nation whose language you shall not understand;


having good behavior among the nations, so in that of which they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they see, glorify God in the day of visitation.
