For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus, which struck him; and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, [therefore] will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Yisra'el.


Return to your rest, my soul, for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.


but you said, *No, for we will flee on horses;* therefore you will flee; and, *We will ride on the swift;* therefore those who pursue you will be swift.


Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? or can the sky give showers? Aren't you he, the LORD our God? therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.


Go, and cry in the ears of Yerushalayim, saying, Thus says the LORD, I remember for you the kindness of your youth, the love of your weddings; how you went after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.


But where are your gods that you have made you? let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble: for according to the number of your cities are your gods, Yehudah.


Why go you about so much to change your way? you shall be ashamed of Egypt also, as you were ashamed of Ashur.


They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, will he return to her again? Won't that land be greatly polluted? But you have played the prostitute with many lovers; yet return again to me, says the LORD.


I have surely heard Efrayim bemoaning himself [thus], You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as a calf unaccustomed [to the yoke]: turn you me, and I shall be turned; for you are the LORD my God.


not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they broke, although I was a husband to them, says the LORD.

She doted on the Ashur, governors and rulers, [her] neighbors, clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding on horses, all of them desirable young men.


Therefore, Oholivah, thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I will raise up your lovers against you, from whom your soul is alienated, and I will bring them against you on every side:


The names of them were Oholah the elder, and Oholivah her sister: and they became mine, and they bore sons and daughters. As for their names, Shomron is Oholah, and Yerushalayim Oholivah.

Yisra'el, return to the LORD your God; for you have fallen because of your sin.


It will be in that day,* says the LORD, *that you will call me 'my husband,' and no longer call me 'my master.'


*When Efrayim saw his sickness, and Yehudah his wound, Then Efrayim went to Ashur, and sent to king Yarev: but he is not able to heal you, neither will he cure you of your wound.


I will go and return to my place, until they acknowledge their offense, and seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me earnestly.*
