It happened, when Yoram saw Yehu, that he said, Is it shalom, Yehu? He answered, What shalom, so long as the prostitution of your mother Izevel and her witchcraft abound?


When its boughs are withered, they will be broken off. The women will come and set them on fire, for they are a people of no understanding. Therefore he who made them will not have compassion on them, and he who formed them will show them no favor.


Thus says the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorce, with which I have put her away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities were you sold, and for your transgressions was your mother put away.


But draw near here, you sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the prostitute.


I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, says the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have compassion, that I should not destroy them.


For thus says the LORD, Don't enter into the house of mourning, neither go to lament, neither bemoan them; for I have taken away my shalom from this people, says the LORD, even loving kindness and tender mercies.


I will set my jealousy against you, and they shall deal with you in fury; they shall take away your nose and your ears; and your residue shall fall by the sword: they shall take your sons and your daughters; and your residue shall be devoured by the fire.


Therefore will I also deal in wrath; my eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity; and though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.


As for me also, my eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will bring their way on their head.


When the LORD spoke at the first by Hoshea, the LORD said to Hoshea, *Go, take for yourself a wife of prostitution and children of unfaithfulness; for the land commits great adultery, forsaking the LORD.*


She conceived again, and bore a daughter. Then he said to him, *Call her name Lo-Ruhamah; for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Yisra'el, that I should in any way pardon them.


They are unfaithful to the LORD; for they have borne illegitimate children. Now the new moon will devour them with their fields.


Then the angel of the LORD replied, *O LORD of Armies, how long will you not have mercy on Yerushalayim and on the cities of Yehudah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?*


You do the works of your father.* They said to him, *We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God.*


See then the goodness and severity of God. Toward those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness; otherwise you also will be cut off.


So then, he has mercy on whom he desires, and he hardens whom he desires.


For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
